Midsommer Relay Race & Social
The Relay Sailing Race is a thrilling and competitive event that combines the strategic elements of sailing with the excitement of a relay race. This unique race format involves teams of boats taking turns to navigate a set course, passing a baton at the start/finish line to the next boat in their team. The team with the lowest corrected time after completing the required number of laps is declared the winner.
The race typically begins with a 'Le Mans' start, a dynamic kick-off where team members sprint from the clubhouse to their first boat. This adds an initial burst of excitement and sets the tone for the rest of the event. The course itself is an in-shore route, easily visible from the club, making it a perfect spectacle for onlookers and to cheer for their favourite teams.
While the relay sailing race is intended to be a fun and engaging event, it still requires skilful sailing and strategic teamwork. Teams must coordinate their efforts, refine their tactics, and maintain optimal sailing conditions to achieve the best possible times. Effective communication and seamless baton handovers are essential for success.
The Midsummer Merrymaking event will include our take on the Swedish Midsommar celebrations with a revival of our members-priced botanical gin making station (in place of Aquavit!), pizza (hold the herring) and toasting marshmallows on our firepits* (instead of leaping over them).
Come down, get stuck in and enjoy the views from our frontage.
* firepit use is weather dependent
