UTSC welcomes everyone from beginners to experienced sailors, individuals, couples and families.
You don't have to have experience in sailing (we have a series of RYA-approved sailing courses for both children from age 8 upwards and adults), nor have to want to race (we have regular 'fun sailing' days for those of you who wish to just cruise up and down the river). We have several club boats that can be booked by those members who do not yet have their own boats.
We also welcome those who see sailing as a spectator sport and/or wish to just join in our extensive social programme.

As well as single, and joint sailing membership being available for couples, we offer a family pack that includes all the family children or grandchildren up to the age of 25. (Up to 10 family members may be added).
Members and their children have full access to our extensive training programme which can take complete beginners to being able to sail and race confidently in a variety of conditions.
Training courses include StartSail - a session for members wanting to learn to sail or build their confidence on the water. It is suitable for anyone from complete beginners or those new to sailing at Upper Thames, to more experienced sailors who want to improve on a particular aspect of their sailing. .
We offer a specially priced membership to those young adults aged 16-25. (This includes a non-sailing guardian/parent until the age of 18).
Young adults can attend all the sailing courses, race, sail, and book club boats for their own use. They can also take part in the Cadets programme.
You don't have to be an experienced sailor to join UTSC. We welcome beginners and have a range of training courses for all ages to help get you out on the water and, if you wish, racing.
You can join on your own (when membership includes a non-sailing partner), with your partner (with both of you sailing) and optionally with a family pack to include your children or grandchildren up to the age of 25.
UTSC welcomes experienced sailors who wish to race or just join in 'fun sailing'. Further details of the boat classes we race can be found here, including a dinghy handicap fleet. Some series races are based using personal handicaps such that less-experienced crews have an opportunity to get to the front of race results.
If you have your own boat(s), then we have on-shore berthing both in the open and under cover, with the option of having your boat in the open during the summer and under cover over the winter.
If you don't have your own boat, then you can book and sail one of our many club boats (subject to availability).
UTSC's riverside clubhouse and lawns make the club a very popular social venue, whether to enjoy a drink and the sunset, or for barbecues, picnics or more formal events. The Galley, run by a franchisee, serves snacks, hot meals and tea & cake when the club is open for racing, and high-quality cuisine for special events and dinners.
Social membership includes non-sailing children and grandchildren under 25.
Full details of membership and mooring fees can be found here .
If you are interested in joining the club and would like to have a look around, or if you are thinking that you would like to give sailing a go, then contact our Membership Secretary, David Robinson and let's see what we can arrange. You can contact him at email@example.com or use the Contact Form on this website.
We are a volunteer club, which means giving of your time to help with such things as serving behind the bar, helping to run a race, or supporting the helm of a safety boat. Training is available and there will always be someone with experience to show you the ropes.
Spring and autumn working parties to help maintain the club's property are part of club life, and great social occasions too.
As part of the application process we would spend a little time with you discussing your expectations and needs from the club, as well as showing you round, to make sure that UTSC is the right club for you.
