Resumption of Sailing Programme

Published 09:29 on 31 Aug 2020

We are resuming the Sunday sailing programme on 6 September in time for the Autumn Series. This will be Sundays only and not Wednesdays and Saturdays. The club is available every day for informal sailing but without safety boat cover.

Duties

As of September we are requesting that the Duty Roster is re-established. If you are in a vulnerable group and feel that it would not be safe to do an allocated duty, please talk to your team leader, and a replacement can be found. There should only be a single duty per team between now and the end of the year.

We are still unable to use the race box so there is a prepared box for the Officer of the Day to use to run the racing from the lawn. Please come prepared to sit outside, with either sunscreen or thermals.

Merlin Rocket Open Meeting

The Sailing Committee have decided to host a 1 day open meeting for the Merlins on Saturday 12 September, with a trophy race on the Sunday for all club boats, so we do not lose a club racing day. The entry for the open will be limited to 15 boats and there will be minimal shore activity. Please enter online if you wish to take part, when this is available on the Members' Area of the website.

Changing Facilities

Club changing rooms can only be used for welfare, or where essential (in case of capsize etc), we are still not permitted to change in the changing rooms. As soon as this changes, we will inform everyone. In the interim, please come prepared to sail and change in the car park in cars.

Coaching and Training

A big thanks to Mark Gould and his team, notably John Meadowcroft and Sarah Percival for the ongoing coaching and training. Their time and energy has been much appreciated. Thanks to all the instructors and other support staff as well. John has sent out emails about Cadet Days that are going to take place, but if you haven't received them, please contact him.

Volunteering

Despite the limited activities we have been able to put on at the club this season, there has been the need to spend a great deal of time in the organisation, and we are in need of people to help. Volunteers for club duties has not been as much as we would have liked, and we are in desperate need of a Rear Commodore House, and House Secretary, as it is very difficult to put on safe social events without a full executive committee.

If you would like to take up a role and support your fellow members, or if you are unable or unwilling to look at those roles, but are keen to assist please let a flag officer know and we will happily discuss what you can do to help.

Hope to see you at the club soon.

Kevin
