This page has been taken from the Merlin Rocket Association magazine, with their permission. The author of the article is talking in general about learning to sail and in particular what type of boat and the venues he has enjoyed. Upper Thames is in that list of clubs, highlighted by the red band he makes unsolicited compliments about the club. This text has been extracted from the article:- We also did Bourne End Week which certainly has a fun, family following. If youre an accomplished plate spinner, try camping, sailing in races, keeping everybody fed and dry all at the same time, this is the event for you although, of course, the wonderful people at Upper Thames do their best to make life on land as easy as possible! We meet up with other families with children around the girls age from years before, but each time they seem to be, rather mysteriously, much better at sailing than the year before! During the intervals between races, the kids organise their own football, cricket and Frisbee matches, while the adults sit on the bank, sipping tea and musing over the Thames Raters progress through the carefully choreographed flotilla of giant cabin cruisers mostly sideways on, especially on the startline!Last updated 23:01 on 16 February 2024
