Success Story

Published 11:53 on 1 Jan 2021

A success story. Upper Thames Sailing Club has benefited over recent years from visionary management teams and many inspirational members. This combination has seen the need to focus their efforts in creating an environment that will foster and encourage its younger members to develop their sailing skills. Jude Armstrong is the most recent of the clubs young members to have succeeded in fulfilling the managements hopes and aspirations, which are to develop competent sailors, capable of competing at regional, national and eventually, international level.

Jude, supported by John Meadowcroft, has become one of ten young people this year to be awarded a boat for his own personal use for two years. The John Merricks Sailing Trust in partnership with RYA OnBoard have run this scheme which promotes sailing for the 8 to 18 age group. Subsequently, UTSC will benefit from Judes achievement at the end of two years, when the boat is passed on to the club for the use of all its members.

This is a success story that began several years ago and involves much effort from many of the clubs members. Jude deserves to be congratulated for his great achievement, but it requires a team effort of support and encouragement in an environment in which keen young sailors can progress.

Those who created this environment deserve congratulating too. Lets hope that Judes success inspires others to have a go.
